Cricket
Cricket is enjoyed by a considerable number of students and the School runs twenty teams from Years 3-13. In the Senior School, the top teams play most of their games on Saturday afternoons and have a highly challenging fixture list. The First XI play in the region of twenty games in a season with a proportion of these being all day. In recent times the team have played several Twenty20 Matches. We play schools, touring teams and men's teams such as the MCC and the Forty Club who in 2003 awarded the school the prestigious Henry Grierson Trophy for the outstanding team in the country. In the Junior School we play mostly A and B fixtures, and on occasions C and D teams.
In the winter the team players in Years 7-13 have weekly indoor net sessions, whilst the Junior School have weekly coaching sessions.
We have a very experienced set of teachers who coach the teams, and in addition we have two professional coaches who assist in the development of our players. We have helped a significant number of pupils reach county school, academy, minor county and professional standards.
As a school we pride ourselves on our success in this sport and over the years Bedford Modern has achieved an excellent reputation as a school that produces very good teams and outstanding individuals such as Monty Panesar.
