Cycling
Cycling has only recently been introduced as an extra curricular activity at BMS and Sixth Form games option.
In 2007, 3 staff and 4 students cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats during the summer holidays, we took 12 days with an average of 75 miles per day.
Currently we are using racing bikes but we may be branching out into mountain biking at a later date. We train throughout the year, from April to October utilising the roads around north Bedfordshire and November to March on turbo trainers (that the bikes fit onto) inside the sports hall. The training aims to build up endurance, speed and mountain climbing allowing the students to take part in long distance rides.
In the future we may be repeating our Land's End to John O'Groats trip or another long distance ride of some sort. There may also be the opportunity to train and race with Bedfordshire Road Cycling Club.
