Horses competing for the recently formed Bedford Modern Equestrian Club can now arrive at their destination in style thanks to the school’s purchase of a brand new trailer. Not only that, the trailer is painted in the school’s familiar red and black livery and so their entrance to a muddy field or a swish arena causes something of a stir.
Angela Pollard, the teacher responsible for Equestrianism at BMS pointed out that the trailer had a more important function; widening participation in this burgeoning sport at the school. “Many students don’t have horses and so this means that we can use my own pony and other people’s ponies for competitions, ridden by a wide variety of students. We can also take pupils’ horse to competitions if they don’t have their own transport. We have already used it for a school competition and for a cross country event held at Potton.”
The trailer is an excellent addition to the school’s impressive
sporting facilities and the expanding club which, incidentally,
attracts as many boys as girls to its meetings and events, can
look further afield in its planning and that a greater variety of
students can enjoy the activity.
