Hockey (Girls)

All girls have the opportunity to play hockey during their games sessions in the Autumn term.

The sessions are based on developing the student's knowledge, skills and understanding of hockey. In the Junior School, sessions are predominantly skills based, learning hitting, passing and dribbling techniques to help build confidence and improve hand-eye co-ordination. As the students develop they are introduced to the variety of roles and responsibilities within the game along with the rules regulating the sport.

In the Senior School, Years 7 & 8 focus on attacking and defending skills, rules, set plays and goalkeeping. From Year 9 onwards the sessions concentrate more on strategic awareness and game situations.

Mini Hockey is played in Years 3-8, with the pupils introduced to the full 11-a-side game during Year 8 in preparation for Year 9.

In addition to the games sessions, pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills further by attending practices at lunchtimes, after school and on Saturday mornings.

Hockey fixtures and training sessions are organised for the students throughout the Autumn and Spring terms. Year 7 & 8 compete in Mini Hockey leagues against local schools and Year 9 compete in the mixed hockey league. The 1st XI has competed against schools such as Dame Alice, Bedford High and Wellingborough School with excellent team performances and encouraging results. Additional fixtures with other independent schools are also arranged around the league fixtures.
