Table Tennis
The School has a proud record of success over many years. Since 1980, 17 of our teams have reached the National finals of the English Schools Team Championships, on 9 occasions winning the National title. In recent times, 21 players have been selected to play for England in Schools International competition, the highlight being the selection of BMS as the champion school team to represent England in the World Schools event in 1995, and Graham Babcock being selected for the full England side in the corresponding event in Portugal in 1998.
Table tennis is an extra-curricular activity for both boys and girls.
Pupils from any of years 3 to 6 in the Junior School have one session per week, the emphasis being on learning the rules and etiquette of the game. The session last for 1 hour, immediately after school. Some coaching is given by older pupils and the better players are encouraged to start to play in organised competitions.
In the Main School, coaching is available in three groups, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. Beginner sessions last for 1 hour, immediately after school, the other two groups having a 2 hour session from 5.00 to 7.00 pm. It is expected that players from these groups will take part in organised competitions, both team and individual, to a national standard.
An external coach comes in twice a week to give the more advanced players individual coaching.
